Ordering process and the app as very good and easy however the food and quality of food from the cafe was subpar. For instance i ordered fish and chips which was way overpriced, they charged $20+ when they were using frozen fish fingers. Terrible

Good service from the delivery guy. About the food I m a bit disappointed. I order the burger: the quality of the meat is not so good and inside it was not cooked at all. The fries were soggy, but it s my fault: never order fries by delivery.

    Quiet cafe in the West

Cali Cafe was offering a deal on Groupon and we decided to buy the $15 for $30 worth of voucher. Upon stepping in, there wasn't anyone around and I guess we were their first customers of the day. We serve ourselves and took the menu to browse through. We even had to ask the cook where were the staff. A man came shortly afterwards and I believe he is the supervisor. Anyway, we felt unwelcomed by them and it was only awhile later that a female staff came to serve us.  My friend decided on having the BBQ Chicken Burrito Wrap while I had the Smokin' Turkey and Mango Sandwich. Both of our mains came with fries too. You can also choose to opt for Nachos. They use the Focaccia type of bread which is soft and compliments well with the awesome combination of Turkey and Mango The mustard further enhance the taste!Being a coffee lover, I couldn't leave without having a cup of caffeine! I ordered a hot Cappuccino and requested it to be serve after my food. I like that it isn't too bland or acidic ^^ Overall, I like the design of the cafe and it's spaciousness. It also fits the 'hidden/quiet' category. Their food and drinks were good but service wise, they really need to do some major reflection!

    50/50

Bueno Vista has little cafes popping up everywhere and Cali Cafe was my choice for lunch after spotting them on my Entertainer App List.
Grabbing a few of my colleagues, we ordered quite a few mains to try out. Sadly the meal didn't impress some of my colleagues where they found the tastes to be bland and one of them even said it was like eating junk food..For starters, the Waldorf Salad was a saving grace which everyone wish they had order instead of the pumpkin soup which wasnt well seasoned and artifically sweet. The salad was fresh and chunky with a good dash of salad sauce thrown into the mix.Pumpkin soup as mentioned earlier, was a let down.Fish & Chips were served cold, and the portions didn't fill up one of my male colleague who also commented that the fish wasnt fresh at all.12 hr Slow Cook Beef was my choice. The mash potato was ok, but the beef turn out way too salty. Perhaps it was meant to be eaten with the mash potato to mute its saltiness. I also wish more vegetables was added onto the dish. All Day Breakfast Set was huge in portion and my colleague who order this felt that it was pretty good, so we all kind of got a little envious of him. With 7 items on his plate, this can definitely fill you up!This was a dish which my colleagues enjoyed and they all gave their thumbs up to this sinful dish which has cheese and ham as it stuffing in the middlw. A little overfried if you had to pick on this dish.
    VERDICT
I am caught in a 50/50 situation. I am not sure if it is worth me heading back since there are so many other good cafes around for me to spend my money at. The food isnt mindblowing good, but they arent bad either. I would still recommend people to try it out, if you would like to go someplace new.

    Brunch Time!

Went to the restaurant for brunch and am lucky that I had with me the groupon deal!
First look at the menu was shocked with the pricing! Prices are not really friendly but with my 50% deal, that make the price more plattable...
Ordered the all day breakfast and that is $19.90.
Portion size ok and I would say the toast is nice with the butter.
My eldest ordered the Mac & Cheese, $15.90.
The verdict from the kids are that the Mac & Cheese is the best choice.
Ordered a Latte for myself at $5.50.
Another must try is the chocolate muffin but do remember to tell the staff to warm it up!  Cos we had to request for it as it was served cold...
In terms of ambience, for a Sat noon... it is good as there are not many guests... So you can relax and enjoy your reading!
Overall service level of staff... so so only...

    Good Hang-out Cafe

On the constant hunt of brunch places, we recently discovered Cali Cafe on some websites coupled with deals. Although it is located within a stone's throw from my residence, this casual American cafe somehow managed to hid under our "foodie-radar". And so on a beautiful Saturday morning, we decided to give it a try out. Nestled within Park Avenue Rochester in Buona Vista, Cali Cafe prides itself in healthy dining and whips out all-day brunch and popular food choices in California, such as Steak and Fries, and Baby Back Ribs.
Well, we settled down and had our drinks served to us shortly. Food came before we even warmed our seats. While girlfriend had their famous All-Day BDBH (S$18.60), also known as the "best darn breakfast on the hill", which consists of a wide spread of breakfast necessities - toasted bread, bratwurst sausage, baked potato , side salad and a personal choice of eggs (scrambled or sunny side-up), and crispy bacon or honey ham.A platter of everyone's favourite breakfast items can hardly go wrong. The scrambled eggs were fantastic, together with the crisp of the toasted slices. Potatoes and salad were fresh and good, just that the latter had an over-powering taste of vinaigrette. It might be contested as "GDBH" (good darn breakfast on the hill), but definitely not the best.
Pulled Pork Bun (S$13.55) is a combination of tender shredded pork, lettuce and tomato slices sandwiched between two soft buns, it is completed with a relatively-strange combination of orange wedges and potato fries. There is no doubt that the filling was satisfying and tantalising, nevertheless, portion and price doesn't correlate in my opinion. After some research, it was found that the sides were used to be fries and salad, and was approximately S$2 cheaper. Oh well.Overall, if Cali Cafe wants diners to return for their food, and not only when there are deals, they do have a lot to be improved on, starting with their cappuccino (which they screwed up badly). The probable factors I love about this cafe are the nett pricing for all the food (but again, prices might be factored in already) and their friendly and efficient services.
Until then, the hunt for delicious brunch continues.

Relaxing Cafe with Classy Ambiance to Chill Out

Where else can you go on a lazy Sunday afternoon but a cozy cafe to chillout with friends or a book? Cali Cafe tucked in the brand new Rochester Mall is a perfect place to unwind, away from the hustle and bustle from the horrible weekend crowd in town. Situated just beside Ben & Jerry's, the Cali Cafe is a California cafe/bistro that serves up a good variety of main courses, drinks, finger food and pastries perfect for the office crowd on weekdays and residents/shoppers who prefers to enjoy the finer side of life on a weekend.Upon entering Cali Cafe, I was enticed by the artistic paintings hung up on the wall. It changes the atmosphere with a chic and laid-back feel. The place was very clean, comfortable and it is definitely better than the crowded and noisy Starbucks cafe nearby. I was greeted by the friendly waiter who was so attentive to serve us ice water, taking note that it was a hot afternoon out there.I didn't know what to order initially as I had a filling lunch before that. Hence, he recommended me to go for their Afternoon Tea Set ($8.50++) which comprises of a cup of coffee/tea and a slice of cake. Great news that it is available from 3-6pm daily, unlike many other cafes which afternoon tea sets are only available on weekdays!
The waiter whom is also the staff preparing the drinks, recommended me Cafe Latte, Cafe Mocha, Cappuccino... I thought those are really common and I made a special request to have something nutty and ordered a Macadamia Cappuccino. Without any hesitation, he agreed to my special order without any additional cost or questions asked. Bravo Service!!There were 2 choices of cakes available and the staff mentioned that they are imported from France. I had the Extreme Choc Cake as he mentioned that it is made using dark chocolates (my weak spot for dark chocs). Hence, I had that and I am sure fans of chocolate will be so in love with it. Rich, smooth and creamy with a nice wafer crunch in the middle. This is surely not for the faint hearted. It becomes overpowering after a few mouthfuls so it is best to share the love around. My friend had the Triple Berries Cake. The outlook of it looks attractive and colourful unlike my choc cake. I thought the blueberries and cranberries within gives it a good citrus burst of flavour but the sponge layer was a tad dry and tough to the bite. The cake could have been frozen for too long, hence the lost in texture. If you like something sour and tantalizing, this will make a good choice though.
Overall, the ambiance and service was great but the food can be further improved as the price point for the a la carte items on the menu is slightly higher compared to other casual dining cafes like Beanstro and TCC.

A re-visit for yet another wonderful meal

It was a public holiday when I decided to visit Cali cafe again...this time to bring my hubby to try the food here as I absolutely loved it during my last visit. There's no lunch special sets available today so we just ordered from their ala carte menu.
The place is really nice for chilling out. We helped ourselves to the magazines available for browsing. I chose the food & travel mag (and it's this month's issue) while my hubby chose a tech mag....good choices available which are just right for our interests. - Magazines available for browsing
You can really taste lots of mushrooms used in their wild mushroom soup which was very tasty. Unfortunately the piece of bread that came with it was burnt. Which was too bad because the bread was good too. Well, I was in a zen-like mood and did not want to kick up a fuss, so I just scrapped away the burnt bits on the toast. Ain't I a nice customer? (well, just for today at least)- Wild mushroom soup ($7.50)
I enjoyed my platter which had rather good quality sausages (mixture of bockwurst, bratwurst and italian spicy sausages, all mostly from pork - which I found out after inquiring with the staff) although some were a bit on the salty side. The mashed potatoes and salad were very nice too.- Grilled Bratwurst Sausage Platter ($18.50)
We also tried their signature dish, the napa hanger steak. My hubby ordered it medium well. On hind side, we should have just ordered medium or even medium rare...but anyway, we still found the steak good. I loved the red wine caramelized onions which had an intense red wine flavor. My hubby preferred the mustard hollandaise which I also loved. The fries were thick and fleshy, nice!- Napa Hanger Steak ($24.50)
The place was rather quiet, so we took our time to have a relaxing lunch here.
Prices are as listed on the menu, there's no further service or gst charge that will be added to the bill.

    Breakfast

Whenever I feel like having a very fulfilling and satisfying breakfast, I will always come to this restaurant with my family members. Here they served really delicious food with quite big portion too. I enjoy having the their chicken sausages which are very chewy and thick in texture. The scrambled egg is very smooth and soft, full of the milk fragrant in it. The fried potato is slight crispy and not too oily too. Service is good and polite too.

    Veg Wrap

Healthy and yummy food can be found at this cafe. Especially enjoy having their vegetable wrap with nochos. The wrap skin is very thin and not too dry. Love the different types of combination vegetables that are wrap in it which make it very crunchy and healthy. THe nachos are also very crunchy and not too salty as well. Have it with a cup of the english breakfast tea or coffee will be even better.

    Really Good Western Set Lunch!

This cafe is located on the first floor of Park Avenue Hotel & Suites, under Rochester Mall. It's just next to Ben & Jerry's which you can easily spot along the main road. I like the white and blue setting in the cafe, which gives off a nice care-free vibe. From where I was seated within, it was just greenery outside through the glass windows - a very relaxing setting
There were a few choices for the weekday set lunches, which includes a starter (choice of soup or salad), main dish and a cup of coffee/tea.
I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion of my Caesar salad. I'm actually very glad that there was no bacon but fruits instead. There were fresh strawberries and peaches, very nice buttery & crunchy croutons, slices of boiled egg (just nicely boiled, not overcooked) and plenty of fresh lettuce all topped with a Caesar sauce that was not too heavy but just right in taste. One of the best salads I've had for a while Actually I was pretty full by the time I finished my salad Caesar salad - wholesome & tasty (highly recommended!)
For my main, I had the oven-baked chicken thigh. This is another winner! The chicken was well-marinated with herbs, tender & juicy. The skin was roasted to a nice crisp - even I could not resist stealing a bite from it haha, which I did not regret though. (I usually don't take chicken skin). The accompanying mushroom sauce was nice & the poached vegetables done just well. Not to forget the tasty, smooth whipped potato too. - Oven baked chicken thigh
My dining companion ordered the grilled sirloin with fries which were crisp & fat, the way I like them. I did not try the sirloin but my friend felt it was quite good. Although slightly charred outside on some areas, the middle was slightly pink.
Hence I'm showing the picture of the dish as well for your viewing pleasure. Grilled sirloin
For our sets, they were priced at $16.90. I was prepared to pay the $20 (including service charge & gst) and was again pleasantly surprised that the sets were actually nett prices. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and feel it's really worth it for the price.

Worth going again and again and again

Located at Rochester Mall, beside Ben and Jerry's, this quaint cafe serves western food, hence their name.
They have a make-your-own salad, which I adore! Super reasonably priced, and so yummy!
Main courses are also priced reasonably, and the quality of the food is not bad.
Went there on a weekend, hardly any crowd. Not so sure about weekdays though.
Service is so-so, will go back again!

“A great time and great food too.”

We called and made reservations for a rather large party of 12. We were worried that it was too easy to get a reservation. We got to the restaurant and was even more worried because there were so few people there. However, it was a Sunday evening and we thought that might be the reason. We ordered a wide variety of food and also kids meals. All the food was excellent and the portions were perfect, not too small and not too large. I would highly recommend giving Cali café a try.
I read many reviews that comment on the lack of patrons in the restaurant and I really just don't understand why it's not busier. The prices and food are very good and there is something for everyone on the menu.

    Great Quality Service..

The café is always under completely new offers! Had a much better experience than before. The cook had put the perfect topping on and the service staff gave me the perfect satisfaction of service. Very clean and tidy place.
I had a fantastic Birthday dinner with my wife and kid and all enjoyed … the kids loved the kids meal and the colour pencil with the kids menu sheet is great to keep the kids busy and we had a good evening with mango passion cake. Great service… Joel and we will come back soon!

    In one Word Fantastic Restaurant

Last week, my sister and I had our mom's surprise retirement party for about 30guests at Cali cafe. Joel met with my sister to create a special menu with a great variety of choices (including a variety of prices). They were happy to allow us to bring our own cake and decorations. Joel accommodated our strange request to buy everyone a few drinks, and kept me posted on the bill.
Everyone loved his or her food. The smoked Salmon, Steaks, Baby Back Ribs and pulled pork were especially excellent. Sanjay the Chef, came out after dinner to get feedback and thank us for coming. The waitresses were very friendly and efficient.
I will definitely be back. If you ever need a place for a gathering or party, Cali Cafe is the best place for such small events and functions.

    Lousy food, lousier service

Went there on Sunday 26 Oct 2014 for dinner with two friends. There was one one staff and one manager working. Service was very slow. We waited a long time before the waiter was free to take our orders even though there were only two tables occupied. We ordered our food and requested for iced water. The waiter replied that they don't serve iced water and that the Snapple is on promotion. So we ordered the Snapple.
The food took a long time to come and we were very hungry. We were served our Wild Mushroom Soup. It was tasteless and watery. We had to add lots of salt and pepper to make it edible. Next came the Baby Back Ribs, Incoming Burger and 12 hrs Beef. There were no utensils set up beforehand and the waiter just walked to my table and dumped all three sets of cutlery on my napkin without saying anything or distributing them. This is supposed to be a restaurant and not a canteen!
I was having the ribs. For $29.90, you would expect a full slab of ribs but only half a slab (six ribs) was served with a side of fries. The meat was tough and did not taste fresh. The burger, according to my friend was alright but nothing shout about. The 12 hrs beef was the only dish that was tasty according to my other friend.

    Very Ordinary Food

    Read this :
Only $8.80 NETT for an All - Day Set Meal, Choose between Fish & Chips, Bratwurst Spaghetti
Olio or El-Camino Chicken Thigh - Comes with Free Flow Of Soup, Lemonade, Tea &
    Coffee
Sounds good ? So I purchased some Deal vouchers to try out the food.
    Soup of the Day
This taste like the usual condensed soup you buy in cans.
    Fish & Chips
This is deep fried dory fish (or the cheap sutchi fish) in bread crumbs. We were served pretty deep brown fish (not golden brown), meaning that the fish was over-fried. 2 pieces, served with straight cut fries.
    El-Camino Chicken Thigh
I think this is a better choice that the fish & chip. The brown sauce is quite tasty. Served with a small hard chunk of mashed potatoes & another veg - mine was a piece of broccoli, while my companion's was 2 pods of pea.
My Samsung phone's camera always give very intense colours. Actually the broccoli was quite yellowish with only some patches of green, not the bright 'healthy' green you see in the picture.
    Coffee & Tea
Free flow, which you help yourself from the counter. Tea are from tea bags.
Given the ambience of the place, the food is cheap. However, given the quality, it is not enough to lure me back again.

    Terrible food

Came here with a groupon for a set lunch with soup that tasted burnt... The chicken was def just frozen thawed and reheated.. The fish and chips wasn't so bad and they were generous with the fish and the chips.
There were quite a number of patrons that came for their "all American" breakfast which unless you just wanna eat cubes of potatoes... Yeah it was quite bad and they didn't have much to offer.
Everyone that work there was Indian and I couldn't really understand their heavily accented English and no one seemed to care when I asked for our dessert 3 times..
The food was so bad, I didn't even bother to take a photo.

    Great place!

So many options in a cozy environment and what we ate were amazing. We eat Pasta and Pizza and pizza was awesome and the best things that when I ask the service crew he mentions the thin crust Pizza base are home made. We all had a lovely evening with great food and good service. Yes the mango passion cake was really yummy and must try after the food. Will definitely come back, and keep the good work guys….. Great place!

    Normal Average Weekend Buffet Breakfast!

Bought the Groupon voucher - $10.90 for Weekend Western Buffet Breakfast (Worth $23.40 per person).
The presentation of the buffet breakfast here were quite terrible. Don't expect good quality food here, the standard of the food here is something like we cook ourselves at home. But worth mentioning was the scramble egg, it's really quite good, not dry and not hard, it's melt in the mouth type!
This buffet breakfast is not recommended if the price is at $23.40 per pax but you can consider if it's at $10.90 for groupon.

    Laid-back cafe experience

Cali Cafe is a Californian-styled cafe tucked snugly within Park Avenue Hotel. It provides a classic cafe atmosphere, complete with plushy seats and soft lighting and music - perfect for settling down with a book in hand in rainy weather.
They have an impressive range of burgers, pastas, pizzas and other typical cafe bites to go along with their coffees and other beverages. They even have an in-house ice cream dessert cafe serving up Häagen-Dazs ice cream and Belgian Waffles. Sounds like a perfect, complete cafe experience, no?
Despite being a cafe, the main I had, the In Coming Burger with Cheese, was indeed worthy of repeat visits. It was a classic American-style beef burger, with a thick and juicy beef patty, cheddar, lettuce and tomatoes sandwiched between two soft and fluffy buns. Fries, orange wedges and mesclun leaves completed the dish.My biggest complaint would be directed at the fries, which were way too salty. I would certainly ask them to hold the salt on future visits. Apart from that, the burger itself was hearty and satisfyingly beefy. Nothing really special, just a standard, timeless beef burger. It was, however, done really nicely, with the patty moist and tender, oozing juices with every bite. The cheddar complemented the patty well, adding a chewy, mildy salty tang to it. Together with the fries and salad, this dish filled me up really well, and I left a happy and satisfied patron.
