About Din Tai Fung

Mr. Yang Bing-Yi, the founder of Din Tai Fung, was born in China's Shanxi province in 1927.

Initially, Din Tai Fung sold cooking oil and had a good start due to Bing-Yi's reputation and connections from his previous job. They eventually moved to a new location, and after the widespread availability of tinned cooking oil in the early 1970s, Din Tai Fung's oil business began to decline. At the suggestion of a friend, they dedicated half of their shop to selling xiaolongbao, which quickly became popular, leading to the closure of the oil business and the official transformation of Din Tai Fung into a restaurant specialising in Chinese dishes, particularly xiaolongbao.

Yew05/03/2026The food was nicely packed and delivered on time. As usual the egg fried rice was consistently delicious. The spicy noodle was slightly spicy but nice. The stir fried spinach was just as tasty.
